Six Highly Anticipated PC Sequels on the Horizon

on November 9th, 2008 by W. J. Rice

Much like the movie industry, the gaming world loves their sequels. Doom 4, Bioshock 2, Mass Effect 2, Fallout 4, Diablo III, and StarCraft II have been all mentioned/announced by their developers. Let’s take a look at six titles who keep PC gaming alive and well in the future…

Doom 4
Not much is none specifically about the game minus the fact it’s in production. ID Software hasn’t dropped the ball yet, so I’m looking forward to their next installment. You can expect some beautiful visuals and some solid gameplay. According to the developers, it will be a monster.

BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams
Recently announced via a teaser on the Playstation 3, BioShock 2 is scheduled to be released for the PC as well. 2K stated “[it] is part of a prequel and at the same time is a sequel.” Don’t be surprised if you see the same elements that made the first game a big hit.

Mass Effect 2
BioWare announced Mass Effect 2 is in development but did not divulge anything regarding the plot, except that it picks up right after the first one. Interestingly, if you have played the first game and keep/kept your save file, the sequel will load it and continue your character’s traits. If you remember, Mass Effect has a level of dependence on the choices you have made, so this would be continued into the sequel. If you don’t have it, you can start over and they implied the game would adjust in order to give you some backstory.

Fallout 4
Now that Bethesda Software owns the licensing rights to Fallout, they announced Fallout 4 will coming “[sic]sooner than you think.”

Diablo III & StarCraft II
Two very important franchises for Blizzard. Both have released videos of completed work, but still no release date. There is a large amount of information on both titles if you do a quick search.

What else is coming out and what are you anticipating most?

[...] 7. Doom 3 The re-imagination of the Doom series and one of the first high end games I had played. My computer couldn’t handle it (still can’t)…I could go all day on why I need a new computer. Doom 3’s atmosphere is excellent and spine chilling. A very enjoyable game, can’t wait for Doom 4. [...]
