Introducing the First 4 Gigabyte Graphics Cards

on November 11th, 2008 by W. J. Rice

Nvidia introduces the first four gigabyte graphics cards called the Quadro FX  and Quadro CX (5800). The CX is specially designed for Adobe Creative Suite 4 users. Guess how much these puppies goes for…

A whopping $3,500.

That’s more than the entire computer I want to build! If you buy a card this powerful, you’ll have to buy a real deal processor to go with it. Another grand on top of this pricey purchase may bankrupt some and make others laugh.

I suppose if you’re maxing out on top of the line clientele, than $3, 500 may pay for itself rather quickly.

I suppose

These cards are designed for Computer Aided Design and Digital Content Creation programs. They won’t play high end games any better. In fact, Tom’s Hardware had this to say:

The new Quadro FX 5800 offers 102GB/second of memory bandwidth, that is just shy of 33 percent MORE than the previous model FX 5600, TRUE 10-bit color – which enables billions of colors over the millions of ‘variations’ available by standard graphics cards. The FX 5800 only has a fill rate of 19.2bn texels per second, where-as the GeForce GTX 280 is 48.2bn texels per second, just for the sake of comparison.

In Contrast, Tech Radar believes it can play games better

Nvidia’s latest uber graphics card is perhaps the ultimate PC gaming accessory, although you are going to need a cool $3,500 if you want to play Far Cry 2 or Crysis as the god of gaming intended.

They do on to say it’s not designed for high end gaming though.

Are you going to buy one?
